ABSTRACT

Ayurveda which is a system of natural medicine having branch of science that termed as Bhaishajya Kalpana which deals with processing of various medicament. Vidanga taila is one out of such herbo-mineral Ayurvedic medicament formulation of liquid dosage form mentioned in Bhaishajya Ratnavali. As per Ayurveda Krimi is of two types that first one is Bahya Krimi termed as Yuka & Liksha while second one is Raktaja,Kaphaja & Purishajya which are further classified as Keshada, Aantrada and Kakeru etc.Vidanga taila is one of the best remedy of external application origin that used therapeutically for Bahya Krimi which mainly act on Yuka, Liksha & other Krimi. Ingredients of Vidanga taila comprise Vidanga (Embelia ribes Burn), Gandhaka (Sulphur), Manahshila (Realgar),Katu taila (Mustard oil) and Drava Dravya Gomutra(Cow’s urine).This formulation is designed by Sneha Kalpana that acquire adequate shelf life so, impart satisfactory field of clinical practices. This paper is an attempt to critically review the formulation “Vidanga taila” explained in Ayurvedic treatise along with other similar formulation mentioned in various literature of Ayurveda Pharmaceutics Science and also to explore its probable mode of action on Krimiroga.
