Abstract

THE INVISIBLE EMPIRE WITHIN: A REVIEW ON THE ROLE OF PANCHAKARMA IN REBOOTING THE GUT’S MICROBIAL MONARCHS

Dr. Manojna S. Maliye*, Dr. Madhushree H.S., Dr. Ganesh Puttur

ABSTRACT

The human gut microbiome is a complex and dynamic microbial ecosystem that plays a vital role in digestion, metabolism, immune regulation, intestinal barrier integrity and maintenance of systemic health. Alterations in its composition and function, collectively termed as gut dysbiosis, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous gastrointestinal and other systemic disorders. Growing evidence has renewed interest in exploring Ayurveda and its potential influence on gut microbial homeostasis. This article aims to critically examine the current understanding of the gut microbiome and correlate contemporary concepts with the Ayurvedic principles of Agni, Ama and Krimi. It further discusses the probable role of Panchakarma in gut microbiome modulation by integrating classical Ayurvedic concepts with available scientific evidence and proposed biological mechanisms. Establishing this conceptual bridge may provide new insights into the scientific basis of Panchakarma and encourage future experimental and clinical research on microbiome-based integrative therapeutic approaches.
