Abstract

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SHOTHA AND AAMADOSHA – AN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE

Prof. Dr. Ojha Aruna*, Dr. Aklesh, Dr. Kande Aradhana, Dr. Diwan Rashmi

ABSTRACT

Inflammation (Shotha) is considered a fundamental sign of sickness in both Ayurvedic and modern medical perspectives. According to Ayurveda, one of the primary causes of Shotha is Aamadosha, a disorder characterized by poor digestion and the toxic metabolic wastes that result from it. This review analyzes the intricate pathophysiological link between Aamadosha and Shotha using old Ayurvedic texts and contrasts it with current understanding of inflammation and immune dysregulation. Understanding this connection facilitates accurate diagnosis and the creation of effective treatment regimens based on Ama Pachana and Shothahara procedures. With support from both modern and traditional sources, this essay aims to provide a comprehensive Ayurvedic explanation of the contributory and causative role of Aamadosha in Shotha.
