Abstract

A REVIEW ON FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL LIP BALM WITH SPF

ABSTRACT

Herbal lip balms have gained significant attention as natural alternatives to conventional lip care products due to their moisturizing, protective, and therapeutic benefits derived from plant-based ingredients. This review paper discusses the formulation, evaluation, and efficacy of herbal lip balms, emphasizing their role in providing natural sun protection alongside nourishment and hydration. Ingredients such as candelilla wax, kokum butter, almond oil, natural oils rich in antioxidants (e.g., karanja seed oil, carrot seed oil), vitamin E, and multifunctional properties including UV protection, anti-inflammatory action, and skin barrier restoration. The stability and consumer preferences toward herbal lip balms highlight their advantages over synthetic formulations, which may contain harmful chemicals. Furthermore, it addresses the challenges and future prospects in developing herbal lip balms that effectively protect lips from environmental stressors like UV radiation, dryness, and pollution, while promoting natural lip health.
