Abstract

SYNCHRONIZING THE BIOLOGICAL CLOCK: A CHRONOBIOLOGICAL REVIEW OF AYURVEDIC DINCHARYA AND RITUCHARYA

Dr. Bhavya Pandey and P rof. (Dr.) Srikanta Kumar Panda

ABSTRACT

Chronobiology, though a modern scientific concept, has deep roots in Ayurveda. Ancient Ayurvedic texts emphasized living in harmony with natural cycles sun, moon, and seasonal rhythms through practices like Dinacharya (daily routine) and Ritucharya (seasonal regimen). The principle of Lok Purusha Samanya Siddhanta highlights that human health reflects universal rhythms. Modern research on circadian biology, including th e role of the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus and findings on chrono nutrition, neuroendocrine regulation, and seasonal variation in metabolism, aligns closely with these classical concepts. The Ayurvedic idea of Dosha Kala parallels circadian pattern s in hormone release, metabolism, and cognition, while Ritucharya resonates with recent studies on gut microbiome shifts and metabolic changes across seasons. These correlations reaffirm that Ayurvedic lifestyle practices not only prevent disease and promo te well being but also maintain psychophysiological balance. Integrating this ancient wisdom with modern chronobiology encourages multidisciplinary approaches to personalized healthcare.
