ABSTRACT

The Kasturi Mrig, as cited in the Ramayana, was a beautiful golden deer which Lady Sita requested Lord Ram to capture for her. It was a bewitching deer with the skin like gold. She implored him to capture this deer so that it could become a masterpiece in the palace chambers for them. And if he's unable to capture it alive then he should kill it so that she could take its beautiful deerskin as a seat on which both of them could sit together. But in actuality the Mrig was Maricha, the maternal uncle of Ravana, who took that disguise to lure Ram away from the hut so that Ravana could kidnap Sita. It is said that the deer had glowing golden skin with silver spots and gems like amethyst and moonstones on his body. As soon as Sita caught a glimpse of this alluring creature she was mesmerised by its beauty. Now, as far as Kasturi Mrig of Ramayan is concerned, I think that it's just a myth since the poets of the past liked to exaggerate while describing things to make the poetry more interesting. But in reality Kasturi Mrig is called Musk deer in English which is an actual living animal. It’s famous for Musk, which has a very enchanting smell. The musk deers are readily hunted for their musk glands which is of a high economic value to humans. But I'm sure that this Musk deer and the Kasturi Mrig of the Ramayana aren't the same. Mrignabhi: Mriga=deer; Nabhi=navel. Which means kasthuri (musk), which has peculiar kind of fragrance is possessed by the deer in its navel. There is a beautiful line based on this Mriganabhi…which actually gives the existence of God in each individual. Theme: , ? | ?? ?? , ? ? | A deer has the fragrance in itself and runs throughout the forest for finding it. Similarly Ram is everywhere but the world does not see. "Kasturi Mriga" refers to the story or concept of the musk deer (Kasturi Mriga) within the context of Hindu scriptures and mythology. It's a metaphor for the pursuit of divine essence and inner spiritual exploration. The deer's journey to find its own fragrance (musk) symbolizes the human quest for self-discovery and enlightenment.
