Abstract

AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE OF PRASAVA, ITS PHYSIOLOGY & MANAGEMENT

Dr. Asha K.* and Dr. Mandeep Kaur

ABSTRACT

Ayurveda provide sufficient description of Prasava, which is referred as labour associated with pregnancy during the time of child birth. The understating of this concept is very important to achieve Prakrit Prasava. Normal labour (Prakrit Prasava) happens naturally and possesses characteristics like Swabhava, Upasthita Kala, Avaksira, Svabhavika Kala and Upadravarahita. When the time of labour begins, the head of the baby rotates and moves downward to be delivered through the Apatyapatha. According to Ayurveda Kaala Prakarsha, Mukta Naadi Nibandha, Swabhava, Garbha Vaasa Vairagya and Gatra Sampurnata are the key biological and philosophical concepts underlying Prasava. Ayurveda suggested several ways to manage labour or to achieve conditions of Prakrit Prasava for delivering normal child birth. This article provides an overview of the scientific understanding of Prasava and its management through the Ayurvedic approaches.
