CARDIOVASCULAR PERSPECTIVE OF HRIDAYA IN AYURVEDA: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
In Ayurveda, the Hridaya or heart is one of the most important organs of human body since it controlling flow of Prana and govern circulatory functions of body. Ayurvedic literature depicts Hridaya as being greater than a blood-pulsating organ. Ancient scriptures dictate that Hridaya controls the body, mind and senses and is the seat of intelligence and life. Pranavaha Srotas and Rasavaha Srotas are attributed to Hridaya in the classical literature of Indian medicine. Pranavaha Srotas is related with the circulation of Prana and Rasavaha Srotas transforming Aahar Rasa into Rasa Dhatu, which provides nourishment for every cell in the body. Hriday as physiological organ support functioning of other organs and serve as vital organ of body with respect to pathological concern. This article reviewed cardiovascular perspective of Hridaya according to Ayurveda.
