ABSTRACT
RAN-C is a traditional Siddha medicine used for the management of hypertension. The aim of the present study was to standardize the Siddha herbo mineral formulation Raktha Azhutha Nivarani Chooranam by doing the various analysis through organoleptic character, physico- chemical and Instrumental analytical like Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF) and heavy metal analysis through Atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) and the results were noted. The total Ash value was 5.4% W/W, Acid Insoluble Ash was 0.33W/W, Water soluble Ash 5.1%W/W, Alcohol soluble Extractive was 5.73%W/W, Water soluble Extractive was 15.29%W/W; Loss on drying at 105?C was 15.55%. The heavy metal analysis through AAS revealed that presence of Lead 0.0107 ppm which is within the permissible limit and the other heavy metals like cadmium; arsenic and mercury are not detectable. The SEM analysis shows the presence of nano and micro particles from 259nm to379nm in size. The stretches and bonds present in the FTRI analysis revealed the presence of functional groups like amides, phenols, aromatics, nitro groups and alkyl halides which may be the reason for the therapeutic potency of the drug. XRF results shows the presence of potassium, magnesium, calcium, sulfur, chlorides are responsible for its anti hypertensive activity. This study highlights the important standardizing techniques for the herbo-mineral formulation and brings it to the next level.
