STUDY OF EPIDEMIOLOGICAL DETERMINANTS OF BURN CASES ADMITTED IN A TERTIARY CARE CENTRE OF NORTHERN MAHARASHTRA.

ABSTRACT
Background: In India burns continue to constitute common medico social problems, various studies in India show that the incidence, severity and mortality because of burns were found high in married women. Objective: To study the epidemiological determinist of burns cases. Method: The present study is carried out in a tertiary care centre of North Maharashtra. It is a cross sectional hospital record based study. The data from medical record section was collected between 1st January 2012 to 31st December 2012. A total of 348 admitted cases of burn in the burn ward studied. This Data was analyzed using Microsoft Office Excel 13.0.Results: Maximum no of patients admitted were females. The burns were significantly more common among females of 21 to 40 years of age than males. Married females (80%) burned more commonly than married males (74 %). Majority of burns cases were from rural area. 86.4% of victims sustained burn injuries accidently & the kerosene stove flames was major cause of burn. Also females sustained significantly severe burn injuries and had higher mortality rate than males Conclusion: The married females were at higher risk of burn injuries in terms of incidence, severity & mortality compared to the males from similar demographic Characteristic.
