Abstract

A COST EFFECTIVE AND SIMPLE METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF NICOTINAMIDE USING PICRIC ACID

*Nwanisobi Gloria and Joseph Nwaiwu

ABSTRACT

A cost effective and simple method for the determination of nicotinamide using picric acid is presented. The method used for the analysis is charge transfer complexation. Nicotinamide which is acting as the donor formed a charge transfer complex with picric acid which is acting as the acceptor, to form a nicotinamide- picric acid complex with a stoichiometric ratio of 1:1. Beer-Lamberts law was obeyed between the concentration range of 20-40?g/ml with a molar absorptivity of 4.0 x104 L mol-1cm-1 and Sandell sensitivity of 1.16?g/cm2. Also the limit of detection and quantification were determined. The proposed method was used for the analysis of nicotinamide in pure and commercial forms with average mean percentage recovery of 92.87%. ln other to check for the accuracy and precision of the proposed method, statistical comparison were carried out using student’s t-test and f-test at 95% confidence level.
