ABSTRACT
Subclinical endometritis causes failure in reproductive performance of bovine by prolonging calving to conception interval, extending days open, delayed calving to first service and higher number of service per conception. To minimize the effect of subclinical endometritis on fertility of dairy cows first it needs to know about the causes and predisposing factors of endometritis and subclinical endometrits. There are many infectious causes of endometritis and subclinical endometritis, which need to be diagnosed and corrected for successful reproduction performance of cows. Many predisposing factors of subclinical endometrits are known which includes dystocia, management factors and retained fetal membrane. Therefore, there should be proper sanitation and care for the cows especially at the postpartum period. For diagnosis of subclinical endometritis, there are many options, although they all have their own drawbacks; of which cytobrush and lavage techniques are routinely used. Even if the treatment of subclinical endometritis is not advanced attempts has been made to treat subclinical endometritis by using antibiotics and prostagldin F2 alpha; of this, the use of prostagldin F2 alpha is the treatment of choice. In this paper, attempts were made to indicate the effect of subclinical endometritis on bovine fertility, causes of endometritis, and the diagnostic and treatment options of subclinical endometritis.
