Amit Gupta*, Jayant Potdar and Sushama R Chaphalkar

ABSTRACT

We aimed to find out the antibacterial activity of aqueous leaves extract of seven different traditionally medicinal plants (Syzygium cumini, Madhuca indica, Mangifera indica, Calotropis gigantea, Terminalia arjuna, Ficus religiosa and Calamus rotang) of Baramati region, Maharashtra against two bacterial species i.e. Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis. Among these only three medicinal plants i.e. Calotropis gigantea, Ficus religiosa and Calamus rotang exhibit potent activity against these bacterial species. In this study, we evaluated the effect of these aqueous extract through ELISA pertaining to antibody production against these two bacterial species and also determined its cytotoxicity. The results showed that only three medicinal plants. e. Calotropis gigantea, Ficus religiosa and Calamus rotang will be able to produce antibody against two bacterial species and also showed its susceptibility at higher doses. Overall, these medicinal plants showed antibacterial activity.
